Our good friend and neighbor, Jason Black of Artisan Signature Homes, recently asked me to speak about Norton Commons bed-and-breakfast on his weekly podcast series, which covers various aspects of custom home building and business design here in Louisville, KY.

Naturally, when his clients are coming to build or buy homes in Norton Commons, it’s convenient for them to be able to stay right in the neighborhood. So much of our business is driven by word-of-mouth and personal connections we’ve made within the local community, so we really appreciated this chance to speak more about what makes our B&B so unique.

You Can Count on A Nice Bed & A Great Breakfast!

  • We make all the food from scratch here – mostly from family recipes, perfected in the kitchen over time.
  • When you have a cocktail at Chateau Bourbon, that’s homemade mixer – not a bottle of sour mix!
  • We’re not pretentious. Put bourbon in front of us and we’ll drink it! We love introducing people to Kentucky’s beverage.
  • The rooms are spacious and modern, with televisions, individual air controls, and king or queen-sized beds.
  • There are ground floor suites for people who don’t do the stairs well. One rooms includes an enclosed sleeping porch.
  • My husband hand-crafted a lot of the furniture you see from old bourbon staves, barrels and bottles.
  • Much of our artwork has been painted by my mother or personally commissioned for the property.

From Dream to Reality

I had lived in Norton Commons for several years before opening Chateau Bourbon. As a psychologist by trade, “I had never intended on opening a business here,” I told Jason Black. But the more I traveled, the more I felt the desire to open my own bed-and-breakfast stirring in my heart. My husband and I saw how Meeting Street was thriving with more businesses opening and more foot traffic. We saw that there were places to eat, shop and live – but nowhere for visitors to stay. So we did our research, crunched the numbers and took the chance.

At the one-year anniversary of our grand opening, we couldn’t be more pleased with how it all turned out. We’ve had visitors from as far away as Australia or as near as a couple doors down. People stay with us while visiting friends and family in Norton Commons, while searching for real estate, or after a day of shopping and dining. It is the perfect opportunity for those who can't live within the community to experience the restaurants and the ambiance of the neighborhood with all its green space, activities, and eclectic businesses. Why not stay the night as well?
